Google: Cloud systems limit change management requirements

20 January 2012

Technology giant Google has suggested that transferring IT systems to cloud infrastructures can offer benefits in terms of change management.

Speaking to Computerworld, Google vice president for enterprise Amit Singh suggested that switching to cloud systems requires a far less complex change management process that traditional enterprise applications.

While business software can often be "bloated" and expensive, cloud systems offer a more consumerised experience, meaning businesses will be handed simple-to-understand products that they can use however they need to.

As such, Mr Singh said it is vital that executives with understanding of IT issues are allowed to encourage innovation by implementing changes to corporate culture of this kind.

"Information officers have an option to become innovation officers. They sit on the intersection of business ideas and technology," he explained.

Earlier this month, Forrester Research said companies worldwide are likely to be seeking to improve and modernise their change management skills in order to gain an advantage in 2012.
