Good interim managers 'are efficient and strong communicators'

27 July 2011

Companies that are seeking to employ interim managers have been advised to select candidates that can deliver skills that are most beneficial to their businesses.

Dr Graeme Codrington, futurist and speaker for the business network Tomorrow Today, has reminded firms that interim staff can bring a number of general skills to their operations, beyond those specific to their roles.

He stated that companies should therefore be looking at the communications ability of interim staff and the effectiveness with which they are able to "get up to speed" with their new team and corporate culture.

This means it is important for interim managers to be able both to learn about their employer as they work and to pass their own insights on to the full-time team.

Dr Codrington said: "The most effective interim managers should be measured by how quickly they complete their assignments, as well as how well the team runs once they have left."

Earlier this month, a report by the Good Work Commission revealed that at present, productivity at many companies is being impaired by a lack of trust and open communication between staff and managers.
