Four in ten interim managers unsure of IR35 legislation impact

6 August 2013

A significant number of interim managers are unsure of whether they are affected by the new IR35 tax legislation.

This is according to the Institute of Interim Management's latest Interim Management survey.

It found 42 per cent of professionals in the sector do not know if the changes, which apply to individuals who are classed as office holders, will have an impact on them.

Only 11 per cent of managers could say they would probably or certainly be affected, while 46 per cent claimed they probably or certainly will not be impacted.

This uncertainty can be explained by the fact 69 per cent of the individuals surveyed claimed they struggle to understand the legislation.

However, the majority (71 per cent) of interim managers said they would be happy to provide the government with tax assurances, while 15 per cent would be reluctant and 14 per cent would refuse.

Should they be affected by the IR35 legislation, 87 per cent of respondents claimed they would stay in the interim sector.
