Flexible working 'can help with productivity'

23 September 2012

Introducing flexible working patterns into the office can help managers to boost productivity and encourage staff to perform at the top level, it has been claimed.

Tom Ball, founder and chide executive officer of NearDesk, said that allowing people to work flexibly can have a major impact on their ability to do a job to the best of their abilities.

One reason for this is that many workers leave a job because the commute and lifestyle it forces them to have makes them unhappy and thus less able to perform, he explained.

"Keeping the best people ensures a company, not just a person, stays productive," added Mr Ball.

Ann McCracken, vice president of the International Stress Management Association, recently pointed out that it is the responsibility of managers to reduce levels of stress among their workforce.

This follows a report by consultancy group AMC2 indicating that less than 15 per cent of UK firms have set up organisational risk assessment policies for stress.
