Firms require effective change managers

2 November 2009

Corporations need executives who are able to effectively manage change with their employees, according to a new survey.

The consultancy solutions provider Right Management discovered that 43 per cent of UK employees believe change management is handled well by their organisation, the Recruiter reported.

This small percentage was recorded despite well-managed change increasing employee engagement by ten-fold.

Executives experienced in periods of transition are often interim management specialists, recruited by businesses on short-term contracts.

Jayne Carrington, managing director of Right Management, explained that the current corporate environment has increased demand for these types of leaders, who can prepare firms for an upturn in the economy.

She told the website: "There is currently so much change in the UK workplace, be it restructurings, job moves or new leadership.

"Managers need to genuinely involve their people in the change process so they can adapt more easily and enable their organisation to evolve over the long term."

Last month, the corporate research specialist Prosci suggested that there is a direct link between successful change management and achieving business objectives.
