Firms 'can improve procurement efficiency with mobile technology'

20 June 2012

Mobile technology can enable companies to make their procurement activity more efficient.

This is according to representation manager at the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Emma Scott, who discussed how mobile data solutions can make the supply chain cheaper.

She explained it gets rid of the need for companies to hold large amounts of stock, as they will be able to replenish their supplies more frequently due to the real-time information available via mobile.

Not only is holding a great deal of stock expensive, but it requires security solutions and perishable goods can go off.

"If you can keep full-time data at your fingertips you have far more control over that and if things aren't selling so well you know that relatively quickly," Ms Scott stated.

The expert explained many businesses can find it difficult to keep their supply chain running effectively, particularly if they are in an industry that works in advance.

Mobile technology could go some way to improving this situation by providing greater flexibility.
