Executives 'believe in flexible working benefits;'

27 September 2012

A new survey from BT Global Services has revealed that many executives in the professional services industry feel that flexible working could have major benefits for the sector.

Nine out of ten of executives surveyed think that the need for office space could be reduced and productivity driven up by the installation of more flexible labour systems, according to the report.

However, 50 per cent of those who replied claimed cost is a major barrier in integrating flexible working patterns, while 49 per cent suggeted that senior managers do not recognise the business thinking behind the system, reports HR Magazine.

Emer Timmons, president of BT Global Services, argued that traditional ways of working need to change if firms are to move forward.

"Old-fashioned attitudes such as spending time in an office to boost chances of promotion mean organisations are holding back progress and missing out on a potential increase in staff productivity," she added.

A report from the Chartered Management Institute recently pointed to flexible working as a potential productivity enhancer.
