Executive leadership 'crucial to change management'
Successfully completing major change management projects relies on strong leadership from the top getting the workforce onside with what is occurring, according to a logistics expert.
Speaking at the Defence Logistics 2013 event in London, retired vice-admiral Keith Lippert - who once directed the US Defence Logistics Agency, one of the biggest organisations of its kind in the world - stressed that executives should not be separate from the process.
"It's probably the single hardest thing to do, yet it's the thing that is probably least planned for," argued the former admiral.
"It truly amazes me that a lot of these efforts are done as an IT project rather than as a project for the organisation as a whole," he added.
Making major changes to how an operation is run is one of the biggest challenges many executives will ever face, with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development stressing that staff happiness should be central to any plans.
