Enthusiasm 'can aid change management initiatives'

21 August 2011

Managers in the healthcare sector have been reminded of the key role that enthusiasm can play in determining the success of a change management initiative.

Dickon Weir-Hughes, chief executive and registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, has stated that members of a team can often be unnerved by change, which could be an issue in the rapidly evolving healthcare sector.

As such, Mr Weir-Hughes suggested that a positive "can do" attitude be vital to creating excitement about change rather than apprehension, thus helping to motivate workers on a day-to-day basis, reports Nursing Times.

The healthcare expert also noted that different personalities respond to pressure in different ways, making it crucial that managers get to know their workforce to see "what makes them tick".

"An excited team will be productive and effective in delivering the goals and vision you set," he explained.

Earlier this month, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development highlighted coaching programmes as another important method of preparing staff for change.
