Engaged employees 'can be a major competitive asset'

22 August 2012

Employees that are engaged with their work can provide a significant boost to productivity for firms, meaning this is one area where managers should focus their efforts.

Co-authors of Contented Cows Still Give Better Milk Bill Catlette and Richard Hadden argued that getting the best out of staff can be a competitive advantage for any company.

The pair noted that in order to achieve this, providing a clear sense of purpose and direction for workers is essential, while firms must also offer suitable challenges to ensure staff remain interested and motivated to succeed, reports Fast Company.

Furthermore, sharing a common purpose can help unify teams to drive towards their goals together.

According to a recent report from Boston Consulting Group and the World Federation of People Management Associations, core human resource (HR) skills can play an important role in revenue growth for firms.

The publication claimed those businesses which excel in this area demonstrate up to 3.5 times greater revenue growth than those which are less focused on HR.
