Cyber attacks 'could prove dangerous in future'

22 January 2013

The current concern over cyber attacks is only likely to grow over the coming years as the internet becomes a more important part of peoples' lives, according to an expert.

Cyber security analyst Eugene Kaspersky told a session at the DLD13 conference in Munich that computers are increasingly playing a crucial part in the public sector infrastructure of the UK and other countries, meaning nations are now more vulnerable to attacks.

"It's a totally new world and we are trying to work out how to behave in the right way," Mr Kaspersky explained.

With energy systems, road networks and more increasingly linked to the web, it is crucial the public sector is aware of the potential problems data security issues can cause.

GFI Software recently warned that hackers tend to choose inopportune moments to strike, assessing when a business or public service is likely to be most vulnerable to an attack.
