Cooperation 'key for data security'

22 October 2012

It is crucial the UK government works in tandem with businesses to cope with data security issues as these become even more important over the coming years, an expert has suggested.

John Suffolk, global cyber security officer at Huawei, noted that the last 20 years have seen the internet become a central part of business growth, reports SC Magazine.

However, this has also led to a growth in cyber crime, with Mr Suffolk pointing out that a data security breach of some kind occurs every 40 minutes in England and Wales.

A combination of corporate leadership and the formation of links between government and business can help reduce the number of problems taking place in Britain, the expert claimed.

"With governments leading the charge and the security industry supporting, we can form a united front against cyber crime and ensure we are one step ahead," concluded Mr Suffolk.

The Information Commissioner's Office recently warned that outsourcing data does not remove a company's obligation to keep it safe.
