Companies 'require a new type of leadership'
The new Perspectives on leadership in 2012: Implications for HR report from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has highlighted the need for a new type of leadership in UK organisations.
It calls for HR teams across the country to better define what good leadership actually is and to create systems, processes and policies to support these skills.
Moreover, companies must create working conditions in which the value of leadership is recognised.
CIPD chief executive officer Peter Cheese commented: "Leadership is no longer just about the boardroom; managers at all levels need leadership skills - the power to win people's hearts and minds and build relationships based on mutual trust and respect."
He added that today's leaders need to be self-aware and have a strong moral compass.
Next month will see the CIPD's annual Performance Management Conference taking place, with the event set to focus on new methods for boosting employee engagement in the UK workplace.
