Change management 'need not be complicated'

24 February 2012

Companies have been advised that essential change management processes within their businesses does not need to be a negative experience.

Matt Keen, engagement manager at Maxxim Consulting, told HR Zone that successfully managing change can be accomplished through relatively simple methods, provided that enough time is dedicated to the project.

Businesses must ensure they are clear about the objectives of any major initiatives and provide strong, visible leadership, before ensuring that employees are sufficiently engaged through clear communication.

Other key priorities include ensuring that staff are properly supported in their efforts to change their operating methods, while a flexible approach can also ensure any setbacks can be dealt with.

"Ultimately change management doesn't have to be a complicated, stressful or even frightening process. The big thing to remember is try not to pretend it isn't happening," added Mr Keen.

Last month, a report from Forrester Research stated that improving change management skills should be a key priority for businesses in 2012.
