Change management 'is vital when planning outsourcing'

25 July 2011

Companies must be sure to consider change management arrangements when undertaking a large-scale IT outsourcing project, according to an expert.

Philip Lieberman, president and chief executive officer of security software firm Lieberman Software, told Financial Director that firms must remember that outsourcing can be a highly disruptive process, despite the benefits involved.

"You should expect IT outsourcing to disrupt your entire organisation in ways you may not have anticipated," he stated.

As such, a proper change management plan must be formulated in advance, including a "detailed and well-argued" case that explains to both staff and clients how the transition will be made.

Mr Lieberman also recommended that outsourcing plans are put into writing and security practices are kept transparent, in order to avoid miscommunication or confusion.

This comes after the National Outsourcing Association called on the government to take the appropriate steps when planning offshoring programmes within the public sector, in anticipation of a rise in demand for such services.
