CBI president hails importance of business sector

18 May 2009

The new president of the CBI has outlined the importance of the business sector in the current economic climate.

According to Helen Alexander, British business leaders have never been more important than they are at the moment.

This, she stated, is because the UK is currently experiencing some of the biggest economic turmoil in living memory.

"Few of us in business have ever experienced more uncertain times," she observed.

Ms Alexander added that this means the business sector needs to engage in constructive dialogue with the government about issues such as the future shape and size of the economy.

She said this would be critical in lifting the UK out of the current economic slump.

The comments come after the Recruitment Society said the interim jobs market will be one of the first areas to experience an upturn if the UK economy picks up.

This suggests the interim management sector could be a relatively strong performer in the flagging job market in the event of an economic turnaround.
