CBI: Flexibility trend to increase

29 October 2012

The use of flexible and interim employees to boost the labour market is likely to continue for at least six more months, new research from the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has suggested.

According to the latest CBI/Harvey Nash Employment Trends Survey, private sector hiring is in for a further boost as flexible labour patterns come in helpful.

Some 35 per cent of private sector firms expect their workforce to be larger in 12 months time, while only 15 per cent expect it to dwindle.

CBI chief policy director Katja Hall said: "Businesses look set to continue with the positive but cautious approach to hiring that we’ve seen over the past couple of years."

She added that this optimism is tempered by concern that the government may not take the right action to boost employment and improve workplace development.

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation recently urged the government not to discourage flexible working.
