Businesses 'failing to use HR expertise in business strategy'

30 August 2012

UK businesses are failing to take into consideration the potential benefits human resources (HR) experts can bring to their overall corporate strategy.

A poll conducted by Redshift Research on behalf of outsourcing specialist PlusHR has revealed that 75 per cent of companies do not consult their HR professionals when formulating business plans.

Instead, personnel managers are being used to communicate corporate objectives rather than actually helping to decide them, which PlusHR describes as a "missed opportunity".

It was pointed out that employees are a company's most valuable asset, meaning that HR considerations must be taken seriously in order to avoid staff becoming demoralised or disincentivised.

Marc Bishop, director of HR consulting at PlusHR, said: "HR can play a critical role to ensure that the creation and maintenance of strong links between corporate strategy and personal objectives to deliver ongoing business success."

This comes after a report from XpertHR last month revealed that HR experts are even being frozen out of people management strategy planning at present.
