Business process outsourcing 'to maintain growth rate globally'
The global business process outsourcing (BPO) market is to maintain its growth trajectory in the medium-term future, according to a report.
Research published by industry analyst Gartner this month shows that the BPO sector will expand by 6.3 per cent in 2011 and a further five per cent in 2012, with multinational companies leading the charge.
According to the report, BPO is being seen by large firms as a means of reducing costs, with processes such as payroll, recruitment and accounting being referred to external partners.
In western Europe, the BPO market is expected to grow by 8.9 per cent in 2011, with legal process outsourcing observed as a key trend in the UK.
Cathy Tornbohm, research vice president at Gartner, said: "Multinational companies continue to look to BPO as a means ... to buoy their business operations during the protracted return to a growth environment."
Earlier this month, Michael Dominy of Gartner told Supply Management that it is vital that companies correctly identify their key processes and strengths before deciding on an outsourcing strategy.
