Business process outsourcing 'on the rise in Europe'

3 May 2011

The number of European firms engaging in business process outsourcing (BPO) has risen in the first quarter of 2011, according to a new report.

Data collated by information services company TPI revealed that the total value of outsourcing contracts in the EMEA region during Q1 2011 was €8.1 billion (£7.28 billion), of which €3.2 billion came from the BPO sector.

This BPO figure was the highest in two years, thanks in part to a number of large-scale mega-deals.

Other findings from the survey showed that the overall number of outsourcing contracts remained steady compared to last year on a global basis, while restructuring activity returned to normal historical levels following a fourth-quarter surge in 2010.

Duncan Aitchison, a partner and EMEA president for TPI, said: "The outlook for the rest of 2011 suggests a healthy level of contracting activity and a modest amount of restructuring in the mix."

This comes after HfS Research predicted last week that demand for BPO in the finance and accounting sector will rise in the near future.
