Business leaders 'should stress values'

6 November 2012

The current UK business climate has made it especially important executives are seen to uphold strong corporate values, something that can have a major effect on employee morale, according to a new report from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).

Some 40 per cent of employees claim that individuals who consistently disregard the values of the organisation they work for either go unpunished or are rewarded, while only 52 per cent felt these morals influence the way people act within their job.

However, 73 per cent of respondents expressed the opinion that strong values are necessary for companies to perform well.

CIPD chef executive Peter Cheese said: "In the wake of the banking crisis and other corporate scandals, now more than ever, organisational values should be at the forefront of business leaders' minds."

He added that setting up a strong behavioural template can improve corporate performance.

Adecco recently claimed that allowing staff to use social media can help them work more efficiently.
