Business leaders should focus on 'ethics and purpose'

18 August 2013

As the UK's economic environment continues to remain challenging, the need for business leaders to get ahead of their competitors is of great importance.
While many executives will be desperate to seize upon any advantage they can, one prominent figure has claimed focusing on ethics is the best way to do this.

Speaking to the BBC, founder and chairman of leading Chinese property organisation China Vanke Wang Shi said that if leaders focus on doing the "right thing" success will follow.

"If you only get money but you don't care about a thing, right or wrong ... That cannot sustain you for the future," he stated.

Mr Shi claimed this ethical approach should be extended throughout a business, including its handling of staff.

Another way in which leaders can get ahead is by having a sense of purpose, according to Frits van Paasschen CEO of Starwood Hotels

He told the BBC succeeding in business is much easier if an organisation has a clear target to work towards.

"If a company pursues its goals correctly, then profits should flow from that," Mr van Paasschen stated.
