ACAS advises on management style

11 February 2013

The Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service has offered advice to managers across the UK on how to get the best out of their staff.

According to the organisation, individuals keen to ensure they are supporting, motivating and energising their staff should take the time to understand the pressures and issues they face daily, while at the same time being approachable and listening to the views of others.

Furthermore, managers should uphold the highest standards that they would wish their members of staff to, as they should be seen as a positive role model and be a driver of best performance in the workplace.

The news follows recent comments from Jabbar Sardar, director of HR and organisational development at Cafcas, who argued that talent development should also be seen as a top priority for firms in the current financial climate.

"We need to start with a core assessment of what it takes to be an effective public sector leader," the industry expert told HR Magazine.
