Abolition of DRA 'changing workplace'
The government's decision to abolish the Default Retirement Age (DRA) has led to a demographic shift in the workplace, according to a new report from Group Risk Development (GRiD) involving a sample of 500 businesses.
Some 25 per cent of executives suggested they have been able to retain knowledge and experience within their companies because DRA no longer exists, while 17 per cent suggested it has increased the diversity of their workplace.
Furthermore, 60 per cent of respondents indicated that they are now more likely to hire staff aged 50 or over because of the abolition of DRA.
GRiD spokesperson Katharine Moxham said older employees can bring a wealth of advantages to businesses because of their experience and broad skill-set.
"However, as our survey demonstrates, an increase in absence rates and age-related health conditions can present a challenge to employers," she added.
According to EnergiseYou, poor working environments are leaving a number of UK office staff with health problems such as tension headaches.
