A third of businesses plan to change HR structure

26 August 2013

A significant number of businesses plan to make changes to their HR structure in the near future, new research has revealed.

A survey of companies carried out professional services firm Towers Watson found 36 per cent expect to alter their HR department before the end of 2014.

Mike DiClaudio, global leader of Towers Watson's HR service delivery practice, said firms think "the time is ripe" for change.

"Many organisations see new opportunities to increase HR's strategic contributions to the business," he stated.

The survey also revealed HR leaders plan to maintain technology spending despite making reductions in other areas.

Over a quarter (27 per cent) said they expect to increase expenditure in this area, while 53 per cent will keep spending at the same level.

Towers Watson found HR departments are embracing mobile technology, with 60 per cent now providing employees with access via smartphones and 24 per cent though tablet computers.
