Odgers Berndtson & Deloitte Independent Health sector breakfast

28 June 2017

On 27th June, the Odgers Berndtson Health practice hosted its third annual breakfast event for the Independent Health sector. For the second year in a row, the event was held in collaboration with Deloitte’s award-winning Healthcare practice. Chairmen, CEOs and Board directors from the sector gathered in the City of London to discuss this year’s chosen topic – the integration of Health & Social Care and its broader implications for the sector.

Our guest speaker was Sir Howard Bernstein, a Senior Advisor to Deloitte who spent over 40 years with Manchester City Council, including almost 20 years as its Chief Executive. Among innumerable other career achievements, Sir Howard was one of the architects of the ‘DevoManc’ plans and led negotiations with Government to secure that ground-breaking devolution agreement for Greater Manchester. Sir Howard gave a fascinating speech, which addressed both the challenges and the huge opportunities which Health & Social Care integration presents. He implored the audience to think beyond the confines of organisational & political boundaries and to focus instead on the significant benefits which could be delivered for local communities and society in general.

Following Sir Howard’s address, David Jones of Deloitte chaired a spirited Q&A session, before Baroness Virginia Bottomley of Odgers Berndtson brought the event to a close.
