Sir Ian Carruthers, the former SHA Chief Executive for the South West and NHS Chief Executive, was the guest speaker at our first Midlands Odgers Berndston, Berwick Partners and Odgers Interim Healthcare Dinner which took place at Opus in Birmingham, last week on Thursday, 19th March. Over 50 of the country’s leading healthcare executives and professionals listened to his speech which was delivered under Chatham House Rules. Sir Ian discussed a whole range of topics including; where he thinks the challenges for management in the NHS is today, what we are likely to see emerging in the future and what managers can do to encourage and shape a new generation of leaders.
Sir Ian has had a diverse 43 year NHS career. During this time, he has transformed access to healthcare as well as the quality of services and financial performance in both national and local settings. He has overseen many major service changes and is a champion of change to deliver better outcomes for patients, staff and communities.
Sarah Lovell, Consultant in Odgers Interim’s Healthcare Practice, commented: “Sir Ian has dedicated his entire working life to the NHS; he is clearly a man who is committed to improving patient care in every way possible and I found him to be utterly engaging. I also found his insight into the international view of our NHS fascinating - it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening for all concerned and I look forward to building on this success in the future, creating more opportunities to bring clients - new and existing – together in this way”.
