Interim management recruitment on the rise in 2011
The number of companies seeking to recruit interim managers has risen over the last year, according to a new industry report.
Analysis from the Interim Management Association's (IMA's) latest Ipsos MORI industry benchmark survey shows that new interim assignments started in the first quarter increased by 13 per cent compared to the last three months of 2010.
This represents the highest level recorded since the second quarter of last year, with special projects, financial assignments and programme/project management assignments highlighted as common reasons to hire interim managers.
Jason Atkinson, chair of the IMA, said this is a positive trend given the continuing instability of economic conditions.
"For many companies, interim managers are just what the doctor ordered in terms of helping UK businesses grow both domestically and internationally in difficult times," he stated.
Last month, Jonathan Chocqueel-Mangan, co-founder of consultancy firm Tyler Mangan, told the Financial Times that interim managers are being regarded as offering greater value than appointing a consultant.
