Finance directors optimistic on growth
Optimism among finance directors in the UK's business community is at its highest level since the beginning of the recession.
That is according to a report published by the consultancy Deloitte, which revealed that 73 per cent of the financial executives questioned expected the economy to recover in 2010 - while a further 83 per cent anticipate a rise in mergers and purchases.
If acquisitions do increase as forecast, international demand for interim executives with experience in these deals is likely to rise, as companies search for methods to boost their market position before recovery.
However, Margaret Ewing, partner and vice-chairman of Deloitte, explained that finance directors appreciate that a return to economic growth will not be easy.
She said: "It seems that optimism is returning but nobody is getting carried away."
This attitude was replicated by the managing partner of Alchemy Partners Jon Moutlon last month, who urged executives to refrain from taking for granted an imminent recovery.
