Demand for interim managers 'driven by job market apprehension'
Demand for interim managers has grown due to concerns about the job market, a business consultant has claimed.
Marc Lawn, who runs thebusinessgp.com, said "apprehension" relating to long-term employment commitments has made interim staff increasingly popular.
These managers can be assigned a task for a short period of time, minimising the risk to overheads, which means employing them offers a "practical" benefit.
According to Mr Lawn, the other principle factor behind the rising use of interim managers is the speed with which they are typically able to take up placements.
"You're bringing in a degree of experience that can hit the ground running for you, rather than necessarily waiting to develop a new person into a business," he explained.
His comments come in the wake of a report from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, which discovered that 76 per cent of businesses are planning to either maintain or increase their levels of temporary staffing in the short term.
